Isn’t it bad to apply oil on top of oily skin?

Oils get a bad wrap. The word ‘oil’ in general seems to have a negative connotation, often associated with terms like grease, acne, and dirt. But our oil-based serum may be exactly what your skincare routine is missing! If the skin is stripped of natural oils, it will go into overproduction mode and cause more sebum buildup. So using this serum will help replenish your skin’s natural oils, which can keep oil levels balanced and breakouts at bay.

How do oils help skin?

Not all facial oils are created equally. The right oils are non-comedogenic (they wont clog pores) as well as high in linoleic acid (omega 6 fatty acid) antioxidants, nutrient-dense vitamins and minerals. Tamanu, Jojoba & Safflower oil help to strengthen and repair our own natural skin barrier, and they help with skin plumpness. They can help balance oily skin types by restoring essential fatty acids and providing hydration without leaving a greasy residue behind. In addition to their moisture-boosting properties, oils can also protect skin.

How often do I apply the serum?

Every morning and night after cleansing.

Where does this serum fit in my skincare routine?

We recommend applying Skin Lover Serum after you cleanse, but before your  moisturiser and SPF. It should look like this:

3. Moisturiser

4. SPF

Always ensure to exfoliate at least once a week to remove dead skin cells. Applying oil over dead skin cells can cause bacterial build up and potentially lead to clogged pores. 

Can I still use other skincare products?

Absolutely! Skin Lover shouldn't replace moisturisers or SPF. Let's chat about why that is:

So, facial oils act as emolliants which soften and protect the skin barrier, whilst  deeply hydrating the outer layer of the skin. Face oils nourish, lubricate and form a protective lipid barrier on the surface of the skin to help keep water in, but unlike moisturisers, they don’t contain any water themselves. Because of this, you will still need to use a moisturiser afterwards. 

SPF is also an extremely important product to use. Although facial oils protect your skin from free radicals such as air pollutants, dirt and toxins, they do not protect you against UV rays. You can find an SPF50+ in many moisturisers.

 

What cleanser should I use with the serum?

This one's up to you! However we do recommend using any cleanser that is gentle, safe for sensitive skin and non-comedogenic (wont clog pores).

What is the shelf life of Skin Lover Perfecting Serum?

Our Skin Lover will last 12 months opened and 18 months sealed.

Will my skin purge when I start using it?

Purging occurs when a new skincare product causes a breakout. Active ingredients speed up the skin's natural cell turnover, meaning that those hidden pimples are brought to the surface and healed faster. However don't be frightened! Only about 10% of users will experience purging and when it does happen it usually only lasts for about 2 weeks, and in more extreme cases it can last up to 4 weeks. It is a process that involves detoxification, so if anything it's actually really amazing for your skin to go through! After it’s over, say hello to a flawless complexion!

How do I know if i'm purging?

You will know that you are purging if after using our serum you begin to notice a few more breakouts in the same areas you usually do. As we explained above, this is due to speeding up your skins cell turnover rate. Purging on average should slow and come to a stop after the 2-week mark, so if you do please don't be alarmed. It's a completely normal part of the journey to flawless!

I have hormonal acne, will this work for me?

No. Skin lover is incredible at healing surface level acne, but we do not promote our serum to heal hormonal driven acne as it is an internal and and requires treatment by your doctor. However, in saying that, you can still use the serum for your face but we highly recommend seeking alternative treatment as well to manage the hormonal breakouts. Our #CommitToClear challenge focuses on healthy diet and lifestyle changes which all contribute to hormonal balances in the body. Although it is not a cure, many studies have proven that factors such as diet, stress, water intake, sleep cycles and exercise all play a crucial role in maintaining clear skin consistently. 

How do I use it?

It's so simple - after cleansing, apply 5-6 drops and gently pat and press the serum in until desired glow is achieved. 

How do I know it's right for me?

All skin types will benefit from using a face oil, but the key is finding a blend that is rich and balanced in both linoleic and oleic fatty acids to promote balance in your skin. Our formula has been delicately designed to include high levels of linoleic acid (omega 6) and a small-medium level of oleic acid (omega 9) so that it works for every skin type including dry, oily, combo and sensitive skin. 

Aside from the science-backed research about essential fatty acid components of our chosen facial oils, we do believe that if you have any of the following skin conditions, you will benefit from this serum:

  • You have eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, mild acne and scarring, dark under-eye circles, redness, dryness, hyperpigmentation, irritation and inflammation, fine lines, wrinkles and early signs of aging, damaged and de-hydrated skin

        How long does it take to see results?

        Change takes time and everyone is different. On average, our customers notice a considerable or even significant improvement in their skin in 30 days. For others, this may take up to 8-10 weeks. It’s all about using the serum day and night consistently, whilst improving your diet, sleep, water intake, exercise, stress levels and hormones. Either way, we are here to back you up on your journey to flawless - no matter how long it takes! :)

        For some extra info, we did want to add that scarring and hyperpigmentation are usually the most stubborn skin troubles. Please allow up to 2 months to really get the best results from our serum.

        I've doing the #CommitToClear challenge and I still am struggling with some skin problems!

        Firstly, this is completely normal! Never feel bad about needing some more time for our serum to work it's healing magic on your skin. Like we said, everyone is different and everyone will experience improvements at different times. Even though your skin may not be "perfect" by the end of the 30 days, that doesn't mean you give up on it! We have had customers who committed to the product for 2-3 months before achieving their flawless glow.

        Where’s my tracking number?

        Sorry about that! In a few cases, the carrier takes 1-2 business days to register your shipment status. If your tracking number isn’t updating or working at all, please reach out to us.

        Do you give refunds?

        We are committed to delivering you the highest quality products and will go above and beyond to ensure your satisfaction. HGSKINXO will accept all refunds or replacement requests if the products are returned to our warehouse within 14 days of delivery.

        Please provide details (including photos) within 14 days of purchase. The product must not have been used and remain in its original packaging. Please email us at contact@hgskinxo.com and our customer support team will assist you within 24 hours :) 

        You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item. Shipping costs are non-refundable
